International FASD Awareness Day
September 9, 2005
The Northwest Regional FASD Society, along with other agencies, schools, groups, businesses and individuals, hosted special events and projects on FASD Awareness Day and the week preceding September 9th.
Friday, September 9th 4:00 pm-7:00 pm Community Barbecue , High Level Fire Hall Parking lot
This barbecue (no cost, donations accepted) highlighted awareness, prevention and supports for those affected with FASD.

FASD Fridge Magnet Campaign This project was made possible by the efforts of Florence MacDougall and High Level Public School students. These magnets will be given to agencies and groups who will distribute them to pregnant women and others in the community. The message on the magnet is, "No Alcohol is Best While Pregnant" and a reminder that permanent brain damage in a developing fetus may occur due to prenatal alcohol exposure, but it is preventable if pregnant women do not drink.

Placemat Awareness Project High Level Public Students had designed paper placemats with an awareness and prevention message. These placemats were used in area restaurants during the week of September 9th. It is a reminder that FASD is a community issue and that supports are available to reduce the incidence and also for those who are affected. Some of these placemats were displayed at the community barbecue on September 9th and on AADAC's Youth Website
