The Northwest Regional Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Society, in partnership with the Brighter Futures Society and the High Level Native Friendship Centre Society, is facilitating a one-day

Community Service Provider
FASD Intervention and Awareness Workshop

Friday, February 18
in the Stardust Banquet Room
High Level

The workshop keynote speaker/ presenter is Dr. Valerie Massey, a chartered Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist from Edmonton. Dr. Massey has extensive, specialized training in the assessment and diagnosis of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder in children, youth and adults. She is especially interested in developing appropriate interventions across the lifespan for individuals affected by alcohol in utero. Dr. Massey is a well-versed, dynamic speaker who has presented at provincial and national conferences.

This workshop will be beneficial for those who provide intervention, support, training, employment, counseling and other services to those who may be affected by FASD. It will strive to provide useful, practical information and will encourage inclusion, support and success for those who provide and receive services. Individuals with FASD may display a common cluster of behavioural characteristics as a result of permanent injury to their brain. Impulsiveness, hyperactivity, poor attention span, lack of inhibition, and poor social judgement can lead to barriers to obtaining appropriate services.

As front-line service providers, understanding the nature of FASD can assist with planning and interventions and may prevent hardships when youth and adults are accessing systems such as schools, social services, health care, recreation programs and employment. To register please print out the registration form. Space is limited, so please register early. Cost will be minimal, ($20 per person, $15 if you register early).
