CANFASD Conference Toronto 2025: A Journey of Learning, Connection and Inspiration
The NWR FASD Society Mackenzie Network recently had the distinct privilege of attending the CANFASD Conference in Toronto—and what an experience it was! Over three transformative days, our team immersed ourselves in a wealth of learning opportunities, forged meaningful connections with agencies and individuals across the country, and witnessed firsthand the remarkable work being done to advance FASD education and advocacy.
**Three Days of Connection and Discovery**
What made this conference truly special was the diversity of voices in the room. We met dedicated professionals from various organizations, researchers, advocates, and community leaders—all united by a common mission: to improve outcomes and support for those affected by FASD. But perhaps most inspiring were the conference presenters who live with FASD themselves. Their willingness to share their stories and their demonstrated success serves as a powerful reminder that with the right support and community, individuals with FASD can thrive. These individuals are not just advocates; they are living proof of possibility and resilience.

**A Spotlight on Our Executive Director's Presentation**
One of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to showcase the impactful work happening right here at the NWR FASD Society. Our Executive Director, Wanda Beland, delivered a compelling presentation on the Sheltering Arms Housing Program—a cornerstone initiative of our organization.
Wanda shared the framework that guides our housing program and detailed the comprehensive, person-centered support we provide to our clients. From the foundational principles that underpin our approach to the day-to-day implementation of our services, her presentation illustrated how we're making a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families in our community. The Sheltering Arms Housing Program represents years of dedication and expertise, and it was wonderful to see it receive recognition on such a prominent platform.
**Why Conferences Matter**
Attending the CANFASD Conference reinforced something we already knew: the importance of gathering as a community of practice. These conferences serve as vital catalysts for growth, innovation, and solidarity within the FASD sector. They remind us that while the challenges we face are significant, so too is the collective commitment to address them. The connections made, the ideas exchanged, and the inspiration gained ripple far beyond the conference hall and back into the work we do every single day.
**Looking Forward**
Our team returned from Toronto energized, informed, and deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an exciting and wonderful journey. The learning we've gained and the relationships we've built will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts to support individuals and families affected by FASD.
To our partners in the FASD community: we see you, we support you, and we look forward to continuing this vital work together. Whether we're housing clients, educating communities, or advocating for policy change, events like the CANFASD Conference remind us why this work matters so profoundly.
Here's to the next chapter of collaboration, learning, and growth in FASD advocacy! 🧡
