Parent and Child Assistance Program
A provincial program designed to address the needs and issues facing individuals who are using substances while pregnant or who have a child who was prenatally exposed to substances.
About PCAP
PCAP is a provincial program that supports individuals using alcohol and/or drugs to have healthy pregnancies and healthy families. Participants are met where they are in their lives, with no one turned away — including during periods of relapse or continued use.
Goals of the Program

Support participants to reduce or stop alcohol and/or drug use during pregnancy.

Support participants to increase their wellness by creating self-determined goals.

Support healthy pregnancies and lives for the participants and their children.

Support community connections.
PCAP Mentorship
Participants of the program are offered support by PCAP mentors who meet the participant where they are at in their lives and focus on building a healthy and supportive relationship.
PCAP participants are supported throughout periods of relapse and/or continued use of alcohol or drugs. No one is turned away.
Types of Support
- Collaborating with mental health and addictions treatment
- Support with accessing medical care including birth control
- Connection to community resources
- Assist with finding and maintaining stable housing
- Support with completing forms and applications
